Peace jokes not peace talks is what took place in Luanda and Nairobi!
Everyone globally is aware of what has been happening in Eastern DR Congo this recent past but when we see the party's claiming to be mediating the peaceful resolution to the conflict and ignoring M23 the one and only group fighting for a just cause, we wonder what their agenda may be.
Let's first and foremost take a brief trip back history lane to give a hint of what is the root cause of the current Congolese conflict; this all started in the early 1990's when Rwandese refugees (RPA) launched an armed struggle to return to their motherland after over 30yrs in exile in Uganda, Zaire that time, Burundi and other African countries that had offered them refugee. Mobutu who was Rwandan president's close friend at the time tried to support Habyarimana's government militarily against RPA though he failed miserably. However this rubbed Mobutu the wrong way and him and his government started mistreating Rwandan refugees in Congo forcing most of them to send their children to fight alongside RPA and get experience for their future in their motherland of DR Congo.
When Habyarimana's government fell and his army and interahamwe militias committed the worst genocide in the 21st century and subsequently fleeing to Zaire, they were allowed into Zaire by Mobutu with all their weapons and they tried to strart where they had been interrupted by the victorious RPA liberation forces, carrying their genocidal plan against the Tutsi in Zaire.
They started a systematic campaign against Congolese Tutsi forcing most of them into refugee camps in the region.
It's on the background of this and after realizing that the Congolese government didn't care at all about the plight of the innocent Tutsi civilians at the hands of the Rwandese genocidal forces and other extremist Congolese groups that Tutsi young men who were trained and battle hardened decided to pick up arms and fight for their survival starting with AFDR, CNDP and at the moment M23.
So when whoever claims to be mediating the peace process invites all other armed groups and adamantly ignores M23 who in fact are genuine Congolese citizens fighting for their rights and survival, it leaves a sour test in every right thinking humanbeing's mouth.
However when they're say that M23 should lay down their weapons and leave the areas they captured ignoring the hateful propaganda against Rwandofones and particularly Tutsi; and the recurrent killings of Tutsi in many parts of DRC at the hands of FARDC, FDLR, Mayi mayi and other extremist armed group lately? One wonders what's on the minds of those mediators.
In conclusion therefore, for peace to return to Eastern DRC, M23 should be at the fore front of everything both military and politically. We hope those we ears have heard!
